I'm James Marabello. I've been a professional firefighter with the City of Fitchburg, Massachusetts for the last 19 years. I have also been a professional freelance TV camera operator for the last 8 years.
My love for photography and firefighting ran parallel from the early '80's until about 1995. During the early and mid '80's until the very early '90's the fire load around Fitchburg was pretty heavy, especially for the size of the area. I have finally undertaken the task of beginning to scan thousands of negatives from around the area.
With my belated conversion to digital imaging, and the drastic reduction in building fires, my main focus is now on landscape and travel photography. I am lucky enough to have been to some fairly exotic and varied locales due to my television travels, and there should be more to come. Perhaps more than I have time to edit. I hope you find my images interesting.
I'm currently shooting with my trusty Nikon D1x. Most of the old fire photos were shot with Nikon FM, FM2, F, F2, and F3 through the years.
---UPDATE----
I just purchased a Nikon CoolScan, so once I figure out how to use it, the scanning will resume. I've already spent several days starting to sift negatives. The job looks overwhelming. Thanks to the guys who have prodded a bit to get my ass in gear to get this done. I will probably also establish a price list very soon since it looks like the scanned images will be good enough to have in the public domain.
***1st batch of FDNY color negatives is up***
Check out the FDNY 10-87 gallery in Old Fireground. This is the first full batch run with the new scanner and I'm pretty pleased with the results. Some of the scans need some tweaking but I'll get to that later. That trip in October of 1987 was my first trip to R2 and obviously was quite an experience. Hope you enjoy some of those photos.
